New York Fashion 101 for Fall: Your Basics are Key

One of my absolute favorite things (that is completely free!) to do is people watch around the city to see what people are wearing. Everyone’s styles are so unique! You can immediately identify who the native New Yorkers are to the tourists to the influencer/bloggers just based on what they are wearing. For a native New Yorker, basics and comfort is key to everyday wardrobe! Obviously, getting dressed up is nice, but it’s sometimes not practical for getting around in the city by subway or walking. Here are the 5 basics you need in your wardrobe to be a New York Native this fall:

1. Leather jacket: The essential for a chilly morning/day. It will keep you comfortable and warm.

2. Comfortable workout set: You can’t walk a single block without seeing someone in either a biker short set or leggings with matching sports bra. It’s giving the Sunday morning i-just-got-done-at-the-gym look.

3. Sneakers: Sneakers are KEY to being a true New Yorker. The best types of sneakers are either your Adidas Stan Smiths, New Balance Sneakers, Adidas Sombas, Nike Sneakers.

4. Bootcut or skinny jeans: The most obvious essential to being a New Yorker is your jeans! Pick jeans that are comfortable and you would choose to put on as an alternative to sweat pants.

5. basic tee shirt or top : This can be a cropped tee, turtleneck tee, tank top, short sleeve… literally anything (and any color)! This may seem boring, but the basics are an essential part. It’s the “hardly trying” type of look that New Yorkers will choose to wear on the daily. If you are like me and always choose to overdress, try accessorizing to level up this basic look.
