Finery- The New Virtual Closet

I’m sure a lot you of have heard about the new Amazon Echo Look, where you snap a picture of outfits and then it can do anything from helping you decide what to wear, to spotting the latest trends that will fit your style. There are other fashion tech tools to help you look your best and organize your outfits.  Now Finery, an online app and website with a tagline of The Wardrobe Operating System, has even more options which links to online purchases and bloggers.  It's your own personal stylist!

The Finery provides the user with insight into what’s in their closet. When a user signs up for the program, they first start out by asking you to rate certain styles, so they can assess what trends you are going to be shopping for. After that you are able to start exploring the app which is sorted into three categories: wardrobe, wishlist, and create.

Wardrobe- the coolest feature of this app (or at least I think it’s the coolest) is that it displays all of the clothes you have purchased on the app. This is super helpful for people, like me, who sometimes forget about the clothes that are dusty in the back of the closet. When you purchase something online, Finery links to the item you purchase and automatically transfer into your wardrobe. If you purchase something from a brick and mortar store, you can manually input the link to the specific item of clothing through google search.  If it is apparel no longer sold online, you can take a picture and upload.

Another amazing feature under the “wardrobe” category is the “look” and “featured” buttons. When you select “Look”, you are able to plan the outfits you want to wear, and even put them in your calendar! The “features” button brings you to what other famous bloggers and celebrities are wearing, with a link where you can purchase the same style for yourself.

Wishlist- Like many retail apps, you are able to create your wishlist for different styles that you can purchase directly from the Finery app. They are sorted into the typical categories- tops, dresses, bottoms, shoes and accessories, and you are able to access styles that you even wish you owned!

Create- With the “Create” feature, you have the opportunity to create outfits as either inspiration from new clothes or use your existing clothes that are in your closet and you can put it on your calendar to wear on a specific day!

I learned about Finery through one of my favorite podcasts, Glossy, which was an interview Brooklyn Decker (co founder) who gave the scoop on the background to the company.  The average woman spends 2 hours a week figuring out what to wear.  It was interesting to hear how Brooklyn wants users to have fun exploring other styles, while being mindful of conscious consumption. I definitely have been much more aware about my purchases ever since downloading Finery because I’m able to see how I can style a certain top with some new jeans, or I’m able to see if a product that I want is similar to something that I already own. I use the "create" feature to design my daily outfits the night before, so I don’t end up wearing the same outfit twice or taking extra time in the morning! I would highly recommend downloading Finery as a new and improved way to manage your daily fashion life!
